A Medium to Large Mirrix Loom - You will need a loom with a minimum weaving width of 16” in order to weave the full size rugs (although you can adapt the rug designs to fit your loom!) I am using the 28” McKinley Loom.

Warp Yarn - All the rugs are woven using approx 2mm cotton cord, and one rug is woven with 3mm cotton cord. You will need at least 500g of approx 2mm cotton cord to start with.

Extended Shedding Device - This creates a bigger shed to enable you to weave easily across the loom. This can be purchased from Mirrix here.

Weft Yarn - I am using DK and Aran weight rug yarn. You will need approx 300-400g of weft yarn for each rug

4dpi & 5dpi Warp Coils - Different warp coils are used at various points in the course. Coils can be purchased from Mirrix here. If you have 8dpi and 10dpi warp coils you can use these too! Just remember to be careful when moving the warp around the loom, as they can snag on the warp.

Weaving Tools - Flat stick shuttles, a bobbin, a comb, a tapestry needle and sharp scissors.

Not Essential But Still Useful - A cutting mat and rotary fabric cutter for trimming the fringe on your tapestries.

A Note On Ordering Warp Yarn Online

Yarn sold online is typically measured using yarn counts - a number that often tells you the length of yarn per kilo or pound, and the number of individual strands plied together into the yarn.

The warp yarn that I use in this course is approximately 2mm, and I have selected warp yarns that match this as closely as possible.

If in doubt when shopping for yarn, the best thing to do is to look at the length by weight. The longer the length per kilo or pound, the thinner the yarn is. The warp yarn I use is 12/24 cotton warp yarn and it is approximately 800 metres per kilo / 397 yards per pound. Most of the warp yarns on my stockist list are between 400-800 yards per pound.
